Ancient & Classical Astrology:  

Courses of Study by Correspondence. 

I'm pleased to offer personal instructional services in Traditional Astrology by correspondence. This decision has been the result of many requests to take my courses on-line for those who are unable to participate in local classes or would prefer a more flexible study schedule. There is no prerequisite for this course, but a familiarity or passion for astrology is a great asset.

The course is designed to give the student a solid grounding in Traditional and Ancient techniques that have proven themselves over millennia. It does not include Horary astrology. There are many excellent on-line courses available and one more would seem redundant. The emphasis here is on reading Nativities as this is a much neglected area of Traditional Astrology. Without acquiring skill at reading the radical chart, all other applications of the art will suffer. Other courses of study, including Electional, Medical and Predictive are also available to meet the needs of students. However, the essentials must be mastered first . 

During the course of study, we will discuss the worldview of our predecessors,  This requires a study of Ptolemy and his legacy, but reaches back to the Chaldeans and Egyptians. An appropriate amount of attention will be paid to the Hermetic Philosophy that informs Classical Astrology.  We also study relevant texts from Plato, such as Timeaus.

Planets are studied intensively for their essential meaning and each student begins by learning the significance of the planetary glyphs and how to draw them. The seven sacred planets are examined for their temperament which is the basis for calculating humours, such as sanguine, choleric, melancholic and phlegmatic. This is of immeasurable use from the point of view of medical astrology as well as simply determining the temperament of the native. We will be drawing from the work of Guido Bonatti, William Lily and other Masters of the Tradition. 

The twelve signs will be studied in relation to the constellations, elements, modalities and essential dignities. You will learn how to find the Lord/Lady of the Geniture, the Almuten Figuris, the Hyleg, the Parts of Fortune and Spirit and other considerations at the heart of Traditional Astrology. If the planets are the energy, the sign is the expression of that energy. The houses are the location or the 'where' this expression occurs. 

We study the traditional attributions of the houses according to Manilius  and where each planet finds its joy. The wotk of Jean Baptiste Morin is examined, with a particular emphasis on his Cabal of the Twelve Houses Astrological.

Arabic Parts, Lunar Mansions, the phases and signs of the Moon are studied along with discussion of the Nodes. The Void of Course Moon will be addressed in detail.

This course is divided into three parts. At the end of this, the student will have all the tools they need to begin work as a competent astrologer, well informed of the old ways. There is no fast and easy way to become a seasoned astrologer. It takes many years to master and we are always learning.  

This is a 21 week course. Lessons will be sent via email and I will personally comment and make recommendations each step of the way. The cost for the full course of study will be adjusted prior to the commencement of classes in September 2008..  This may be paid for one module at a time.  This is a good option for those who cannot commit to the full 21 weeks, due to time constraints. Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be awarded a Certificate of  Proficiency in Essential Traditional Astrology.  Please be advised that I accept a very limited number of students at a time to ensure that each gets the personal attention they need.

There are no books that need to purchased for this course. All required reading will be supplied.
