  1. Love your blog. Did all the pictures come from copies of Cornelius Agrippa’s book – if not, can you say a bit more about each of them? I’m particularly interested in the picture who have in the ‘Libra’ section, but which seems to depict Orion, with Betelgeuse at the sleeve and Bellatrix in the ribbons.

    • Hello Diane, I’m pleased that you enjoyed the page on the Mansions according to Agrippa. None of the images are from his work. The first image is a photo of an Islamic astrolabe, the painting is of Orion. I would say it was probably from the late 14th century and most likely Turkish. The circle image of the Mansion is adapted from Ibn Arabi, who has a particularly mystical interpretation. I’m not sure about your question regarding Libra. Perhaps you could explain?

    • Hello Diane, the page reproduces the Mansions according to Agrippa. None of the images is from his work, but are roughly contemporary. The first image is a photo of an astrolabe, the painting is an Islamic portrayal of Orion. You can see Betelgeuse at the end of his sleeve. The circle of the Mansions is adapted from Ibn Arabi. I’m not sure what you are referring to regarding Libra, but of you, could clarify. I would be happy. “Ajaib al-Makblukat”) by al-Kazwini, late 14th century

  2. James,
I did mean the picture that you put between mansion 14 (Virgo) and 15 (Libra). This is the image from a copy of al-Khazwini? It looked so fresh that I thought it might be a modern copy. Thank you so much for taking time to answer my questions.
